January is Crime Stoppers Month - ’SAY IT HERE’

A Record Year for Crime Stoppers in 2018


NORTH BAY - Near North Crime Stoppers (NNCS) received a record 849 new Tips in 2018. Over 67% of all tips received were submitted anonymously via Webtips to nearnorthcrimestoppers.com


Board Chairperson, Chad Evans, says the number one issue year-after-year is still drug related criminal activity.  According to Mr. Evans, ‘Board statistics show that, since inception in 1988, over $51.59 million in illegal drugs have been recovered by police, thanks to anonymous tips received through Near North Crime Stoppers’.


NNCS Police Coordinator, Jean Lemieux, points out that tips received have led police to recover a substantial amount of illegal drugs and stolen property this past year. Anonymous information also led to the arrest of 23 persons in 2018, bringing the total number to 1,671 since 1988.

NNCS Executive Director, Tracy Johnston, reminds the public, ‘The non-profit organization is one of 1,200 programs in nearly 2 dozen countries around the world that have received information leading to the seizure of more than $5.8 billion worth of drugs. ‘Crime Stoppers makes the world a safer place by helping to solve a crime somewhere in the world, every 14 minutes, of every day.
